How fast is the Mo/Me or Me/Mo IW Solo in the Underworld compared to the above builds?

I don't know compared to those builds, but it's really slow... not worth it in my opinion.

Best way to do Underworld in my opinion is dual trappers.
Yeah, I know the title said solo, but solo builds are either too slow or too limited. With trappers you can kill Aataxes, Graspings, Smites, and Coldfires (though they usually don't drop anything).
On topic: Best solo build if you can pull it off is Rt/Me.

Honestly, duo is probably the way to go for speed right now, if you intend to kill aatxes and smites.
And there are a lot of good posts in this farming forum; you should actually comb through some of them instead of waiting around for somebody to hand you a build on a silver platter.

To do some number crunching, there are exactly 16 aatxes that you can kill before the smites, each with a 4.1 % chance of dropping ecto.
Therefore if you kill all, the chance of you getting an ecto is 16*4.1 (correct me someone, if this calculation is wrong), which is 65.6%.
When you reach the Ice Wastes, you will be confronted with approximately 35-40 smites. Let's take the lower number. According to wiki, smites have a 1.7% chance of dropping ecto. That makes it 35*1.7 = 59.5%. At 40, that would be 68%.
So the chances of getting ecto are roughly about the same from all the aatxes, and all the smites.
The fastest smite-only run in existence now, is the Rt/Me, with the best time being 15 minutes. Thus to make farming the aatxes worthwhile, there must be a build which can complete both areas, in 30 minutes.
I THINK the SS necro can probably do it at 30-40 minutes, but am not sure. Anybody else can provide any figures?

I haven't really tried to 55 N/Mo since the nerf. I did do it once, and any groups of smites over 3 were extremely annoying to kill. I could not manage to kill a group of 5 because of their constant rotation. Plus, it is very hard to keep SS up on smites when 2 of them aren't balled up, so they dont have hexes on them, and thus smite hex off SS.

That means that nobody can do a combined solo smite + aatxe run in short enough time to make it better than the Rt/Me solo smite farm I guess.
Guess the OP has his answer

Your math is a bit off, but your conclusions are still right -- it turns out that almost nothing works the way you would expect it to with the mathematics of probability
The easiest way to compute the probability of getting an ecto is to figure out the probability of getting zero ectos and then subtracting that number from 1. Since it's X-MAS break for most of us, I won't dredge up all the nasty math . Suffice it to say, there's a 1-(1-0.041)^16 = 0.488 = 48.8% chance of getting one or more ectos from fighting 16 Aatxes.
For the Smite Crawlers, there's a 1-(1-0.017)^38 = 0.479 = 47.9% chance of getting one or more ectos from fighting 38 Smite Crawlers (I chose a middling number).
Putting these both together, you have a 1-(1-0.488)*(1-0.479) = 0.733 = 73.3% chance of getting at least one ecto from killing both the Aatxes and the Smite Crawlers.

Yep. The numbers are just a bit lower.
Incidentally, the average number of ectos per run is equal to the number of creatures times the probability of an ecto dropping, or exactly what you calculated. So, on average, you'll pull about 0.65 ectos from either the Aatxes or the Smites per run, or 2 every 3 runs. Doing both should yield 1.3 ectos per run, on average. This compares pretty well with my own personal experiences.
Finally, you get a little extra leeway (maybe 2 or 3 minutes) for the combined run since you only have to pay the entrance fee once for every two times you would do the Smite-only run. So, if a Smite-only run takes 15 minutes and a combined run takes 30 minutes, chose the combined run and save yourself 1k.
EDIT: reworded, added last two paragraphs

Thank you for the corrected math, knew I forgot something along the way
Fact of the matter is though, I'm not sure if there are any solo builds which can complete both aatxes and smites in 30 minutes..

Agreed.
Also, I wanted to mention one other thing suggested by your analysis: an Aatxe-only run. If you could clear the chamber and perhaps kill some of the outlying Aatxes in about the same amount of time that a Smite-only run takes, you'd have an equally profitable run. The battles will tend to be longer, but since you don't need to run anywhere or wait for the Coldfire Nights to clear, it might just be possible. The Aatxes can be picked off in groups of three easily enough, so scattering isn't a grave issue, and without Smite Hex to worry about, you can lay on the hexes with impunity. Mind you, survival isn't trivial, and you still have to worry about interrupts, but perhaps there is a suitable Monk, Necromancer, or Mesmer build out there for this sort of thing.
